MD Film Festival Preview w/Skizz Cyzyk & Chris LaMartina

Skizz Cyzyk is a musician, filmmaker and animator whose director credits include Freaks In Love (Alice Donut documentary), Little Castles (about formstone) and Hit and Stay (a documentary on the Catonsville 9 he made with Joe Tropea). Skizz was also the founder of Baltimore’s legendary MicroCinefest – a psychotronic film festival that ran for over 10 years (1997-2008). He was also in the great Baltimore punk band Berserk as well as Garage Sale, Mink Stole’s Band and more.

Chris Lamartina is also a musician and filmmaker. He is in a punk band called Pure Junk (who just released a new single) with a number of other Baltimore artists. His directing credits include Witches Brew, President’s Day, WNUF Halloween Special and Call Girl of Cthulhu.

Both of these filmmakers tend to wear many hats in their productions – from writing, directing, animating and scoring. And what you end up with is a film that, while very collaborative with artists in the local filmmaking scene, but also very much the work of an auteur.

This week they tell Jamie and Benn how they both became involved with movie making while in high school and how they both make movies for the love of making them.  They also provide Jamie and Benn with their picks for the upcoming Maryland Film Festival in Baltimore May 6th-10th.

In this episode we also learn that Jamie doesn’t know how to talk and Benn as a knack for asking all the right questions.
